First Year Residents
Farah Awad, M.D.
Status: PGY-1 Medical School: Saba University School of Medicine I spent the first 17 years of my life living in Abu Dhabi, UAE until I moved to Toronto, Canada for university and it’s been home ever since. I earned my Honors Bachelor of Science at the University of Toronto and then moved to an island in the Caribbean to get my Medical Degree at Saba University. I’ve always been drawn to Family Medicine because I grew up watching my great uncle care for everyone in our community. I really value the strong bond you develop with patients and their families, as well as exposure to different procedures and pathologies. Throughout medical school, I rotated in many hospitals across many states, but Aultman stood out because of their culture. Everyone from the Program Director to the clinic staff went out of their way to create a positive and supportive environment. I’m looking forward to learning and growing with this community for the next three years!

Jordan Bagheri, D.O.
Status: PGY-1 Medical School: Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine I am originally from Youngstown, Ohio and grew up with two brothers who are my very best friends. All three of us started playing piano when we were around five years old and continue to play to this day. I was first introduced to Canton when I enrolled at Walsh University. This is where I met my now husband who is also a resident but in Internal Medicine. During the summers of undergraduate, I visited my hometown where I volunteered at a local nursing home and the Dorothy Day House of Hospitality. I developed a love for community service throughout these experiences leading me to pursue Family Medicine. Outside of the hospital, I enjoy hiking, reading, visiting Lake Milton, and spending time with my husband and family. I am so grateful to be working at Aultman and serving a community I am passionate towards. I am looking forward to the next three years as a Family Medicine resident and the opportunities that lie ahead.

John Elgersma, M.D.
Status: PGY-1 Medical School: Saba University School of Medicine I was born and raised on a small dairy farm in Wellandport, Ontario and have loved the country life ever since. Being raised in the Niagara community and going to Heritage Christian School was a huge blessing. I furthered my schooling and pre-med experience by attending Brock University where I finished off by playing a year of varsity volleyball for the Brock Badgers. This experience drew me to love competition and sports medicine even more. After this, I attended Saba University School of Medicine and completed my clerkships in many different states with many different specialties. I chose Family Medicine as my path as it allows me to encompass every type of medical encounter and give me a wide range of options for when I practice on my own in the future. I have an interest in Sports medicine, Emergency, and Obstetrics. Aultman seemed an excellent choice for residency as it is a quick drive home to Canada and many friends and fellow Saba graduates also completed their training here. With super friendly and helpful staff, I am really looking forward to my next three years as a Family Medicine Resident at Aultman. Outside of medicine you can find me competing in any sport out there whenever time allows.

Status: PGY-1 Medical School: Saba University School of Medicine I was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. I completed my undergraduate degree at Bishop's University in Sherbrooke, Quebec; following that I went to SABA University for medical school. I completed my clinical rotations throughout the states, but my Family Medicine rotation here at Aultman really left a mark on me. I was immediately drawn in by their supportive and friendly culture that encourage you to grow as a physician and the genuine camaraderie between the hard-working residents. I had the experience to interact with a wide variety of patients, participate in many procedures, and was included in some of the outings with the residents. Although I only had a glimpse of Aultman, I knew this was the program for me! Now, I am honored and excited to be part of the Aultman family for the next three years. Outside of medicine, you can find me at the local gym, playing volleyball, playing video games or hanging out with friends!

Emma Stout, D.O.
Status: PGY-1 Medical School: Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine I was born and raised in Stow, Ohio. I have always loved Northeast Ohio, so I completed my undergraduate training at Kent State University. I had to leave the area to attend medical school at Ohio University Heritage College of Medicine but I came back as soon as I could. Even before entering medical school I was interested in Family Medicine because I believe it is the only specialty where you can help a patient with many aspects of their health and life, across their lifetime. I was drawn to Aultman Hospital first because it’s so close to home. During my interview I was so impressed by the atmosphere of teamwork and how supportive the faculty are. In my free time you will almost certainly find me working on a craft project while watching a movie.

Amy Town, M.D.
Status: PGY-1 Medical School: American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine I was born in Orillia, Ontario and was happy to call cottage country my home. It was a wonderful environment for an active childhood filled with sunshine and swimming. I earned a scholarship to play volleyball at the University of Pittsburgh, where I earned a B.Sc. of Psychology and a minor in Music. Moving to Pennsylvania sparked my love of travelling, which has created many opportunities for learning and growth, not to mention a wealth of memories. Eventually I turned my focus to medicine when I was accepted into AUC School of Medicine. Experiencing vastly different cultures proved to me how important an understanding and compassionate physician is to creating healthy lives in her patients. I couldn’t be more excited to serve the community at Aultman Hospital and learn all about what it takes to become a great Family Physician.

Status: PGY-1 Medical School: Saba University School of Medicine I was born and raised in St. Catharines, Ontario. I completed my undergraduate degree at Brock University in St. Catharines. Eventually I went to Saba University School of Medicine. I completed most of my clinical rotations in Brooklyn, New York but was able to visit Maryland and Virginia for elective rotations. I'd heard through many colleagues that Aultman's Family Medicine program had a wonderfully supportive environment, with a strong emphasis on teaching. Given that I always wanted to do family medicine, my choice was easily made. I am excited to be able to work hard and learn over the next three years, along with my friends and colleagues.
